Does kanthal a1 Rust?
Kanthal A1 is an iron-chromium-aluminum (FeCrAl) alloy, and it is known for its excellent resistance to oxidation and high-temperature performance. The aluminum content in Kanthal A1 forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide on the surface when exposed to high temperatures, which helps prevent rust and corrosion.
Under normal conditions, Kanthal A1 does not rust because of this protective oxide layer. However, if the material is exposed to harsh environments, such as prolonged contact with moisture, acids, or other corrosive substances, it could potentially corrode over time. But in typical usage, especially in high-temperature applications like heating elements, Kanthal A1 is highly resistant to rust and oxidation.
