Hastelloy C22 is a standard industrial material that provides excellent resistance to natural corrosion, intergranular attack, pitting and crevice corrosion and SCC. An austenitic alloy C-22 provides outstanding resistance in static or running marine water and resists attack in oxidizing and reducing conditions as well as aqueous solutions. It is an ideal material for use in applications including wet chlorine, combined oxidizing acids such as nitric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, ferric and cupric chlorides and other chemical conditions.

Alloy C-22 is proven for manufacturing pressure vessels and components following ASME boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII, Division 1 for application temperatures up to 1250oF/677oC. The service temperature for this alloy should be kept below 1250oF.

Hastelloy C-22 is widely used in the forms- Hastelloy C22 wire, Hastelloy C22 bar and Hastelloy C22 plate.

Other commonly used Hastelloy grades are: Hastelloy alloy B3, Hastelloy C276, Hastelloy C4 and Hastelloy C2000

Hastelloy C22 wire:

Hastelloy C-22 Applications:

Medicine production houses, cellophanes, chlorination plants, fertilizers, incinerators, chemical processing sectors such as flue gas scrubbers, sulfur dioxide scrubbers, pulp and paper bleach units, pickling plants, nuclear fuel retreatment, waste water treatment, food, beverages, heat exchangers, flue gas and sulfur dioxide  and incineration scrubbing devices, acid manufacturing and weld overlay of sensitive metals.

Alloy C22 offers effective service in the security of boiler tubes, waterwalls and coal fired power production plants.

Hastelloy C-22 Corrosion Behavior:

Alloy C22 is a completely austenitic corrosion resistant alloy that offers excellent resistance to aqueous and high temperature corrosion. It prevents general corrosion, pitting and crevice, integranular attack and stress corrosion cracking. Chromium content in this alloy prevents attack in the oxidizing conditions and molybdenum and tungsten resist wet reducing attack. Hastelloy C22 prevents carburization and sulfidation at the elevated temperatures.

The alloy is resistant to halides attack at the high temperatures such as sulfur that is usually found in the coal based power production plants. It is also resistant to severe corrosion caused by metal chlorides in the boilers containing municipal solid waste.

Hastelloy C-22 Production:

Alloy C22 is easily fabricable by the same techniques as used for alloys C276 and C4. It can be welded, forged, hot-upset and impact extruded.

Alloy C22 is easily formable and it attains better welding conditions. It suitably prevents the development of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heated region and is easily weldable by gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc or shielded metal welding methods.
