They say, no one can stop you if you are really dedicated in something.  To prove this, the students of Harvard University have designed a snow eliminating roller that can melt the intensely thick snow from the tracks and roofs.

Winter as usual affects the study schedule in Harvard university every year. Thanks to the group of students who had taken the problem of severe snowfall very seriously that they have found a solution of it. The students from the mechanical engineering department of the university have developed a nichrome 80 wire featured tool that can make it easy and secured for their mates to attend the class when it is whiteout.

A group of 18 peers developed the device that can handle the severe job of clearing ice from the walkways and ceilings of a building.

Noticing the previous extraordinary level of winter, several snow storms have affected the different parts of the country when snow of 6 feet was accumulated for around a month. Due to this, many universities were forced to cease frequently in the initial months of the year. The students sensed this complication that was faced by several education hubs. They evaluated the each fact of snow removal procedure to prepare an economical solution that could help the workers to clean the walkways quickly and easily. They executed hundreds of concepts of secured, economical and efficient snow elimination strategies to fabricate a robotic snow blower that melts snow and cuts ice.

This nichrome wire featured robotic snow blower is made to discard snow from the flat ceilings. It consists of two electric motors that control the steering and electronic equipment to help operater to handle the machine. Using this device, the snow eliminating people do not need to walk along the slippery areas such as edges of ceilings.

Making such highly advantageous and safe device was not easy. The main challenge was to combine the entire essential parts of the machine. It was critical for students to determine the working process of engine, its gears etc, they also needed to take an advance step to configure them together.

First challenge is to clear the snow and second is to melt it before it stacks to form another aggregate. For this, the team followed a three tired strategy. Double compounds were used to produce hydrogel that prevents snow cooling and form other chemicals to make the system sturdy. Salt was added into a reservoir that melts snow quickly.

As in many areas of United States, a record snow of above 100 inches is noticed, the bowler is made to handle this much snow to make its performance valuable. Its durable structure ensures that the device can withstand the outside conditions without getting much affected.

In addition of ice stacking underfoot, the ice stones falling from above are also terrible for the workers. An apparatus is designed for icicle elimination for use by workers while working outside. The ice cutting tools consist of robust nichrome wire that when activated, heats above 400oC within a few seconds to cut the ice stone hanging on any roof – edge.

It was not easy to securely deal with very hot wire in addition of including sufficient but compact power supply. With lots of efforts the team became able to come with a successful snow eliminator design that fits the needs of secured removal of ice and snow at the time of heavy snowing.
